On October 26, 2021, Algonquin Power & Utilities announced it would buy American Electric Power’s Kentucky Power and Kentucky Transco units. 14 months later, FERC formally rejected the deal, on the grounds the parties couldn’t guarantee there wouldn’t be an impact on transmission rates.
